We used to spend a month or so of the Summer in Henrichemont (near Bourges in the Loire Valley) while our daughter finished her end of year grade school. When the school had end of year fun days, the cookouts would have merguez on a baguette (instead of our hot dogs) and, of course, piles of frites.
