Where to Find Root Beer in Central Ohio (and Further Afield)

By Bethia Woolf

Central Ohio has a long root beer history of its own. Frostop got its start in Springfield back in 1926, and you can still find it at Ace Hardware and some grocery stores. (Frostop is now headquartered in Columbus.)

Sadly, Central Ohio doesn’t have much left in the way of old-school root beer drive-ins. The closest ones seem to be about an hour away: Stewart’s Drive-In in Marion, where you can still get it served in a chilled glass mug; Wot-A-Dog in New Carlisle; or The RootBeer Stande in Dayton. Other parts of the state seem to have more retro root beer stops than Central Ohio. And you probably won’t be shocked to hear that Jungle Jim’s has a vast root beer selection of its own.
